The third solidarity meeting of the members of Efling and their supporters in the struggle was held in Iðnó today.
As usual, the place was packed, the vibe was positive and people were up to the fight.
The lawyer Katrín Oddsdóttir conducted the meeting vigorously and it began with a battle hymn sung by the female choir Katla.
During the meeting, Tatjana Latinovic, the chairman of KRFÍ, covered equality and the plight of women of foreign origin in the Icelandic labor market. Theodór Ingi Ólafsson, a parent on parental leave and father of two children of kindergarten age gave his thoughts regarding the importance of preschool work and Þórunn Sveinbjörnsdóttir, chairman of the national association of senior citizens (Landssamband eldri borgara) regarding the importance of care-work in nursing homes.
Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, chairman of Efling, gave a stirring address and at the end of it the group stormed over to the town hall where the female choir Katla sang the song Áfram stelpur, which was well received.
More photos and a video of the choir’s performance outside the town hall may be seen on the facebook-wall of Efling.
