In the third episode of Radio Efling, we speak about the obstacles facing those who lose their job, about the unemployment benefits system, and what needs to change.
Thousands have lost their job in the wake of the pandemic. Unemployment benefits are too low and the people receiving them feel shame, even though they have paid the price of unemployment insurance themselves.
In this episode, Ása Björg Valgeirsdóttir tells about her experience of losing her job in the 2008 crash, and how the system has traps built in that make it hard to escape. Stefán Ólafsson, specialist at Efling, and Drífa Snædal, president of ASÍ, talk about what needs to change and how.
Hosts: Benjamín Julian and Þórunn Hafstað.
Interviewees: Ása Björg Valgeirsdóttir, Stefán Ólafsson and Drífa Snædal.
