In the next DropINN on May 6 at 10am there will be a discussion about the change in combination of the labour market along with a large increase in immigrants in Iceland, but the number of immigrants has increased six fold at the last 20 years. In addition to examining developments, various useful concepts will be discussed; globalization, migration, multiculturalism and integration. Various dark aspects of the rapidly growing tourism industry that the trade union movement has fought against will be discussed.

Finally, the employment rate of immigrants in Iceland will be discussed, but it has generally been very high and much higher than in neigh boring countries as well as among native Icelanders, at over 40% unemployment as it is now. Guðrún Margrét Guðmundsdóttir, an expert at ASÍ, will review these issues. The lecture will be given in English and subtitled in Icelandic.

The lecture will be streamed live on the Efling Facebook page and will be available there afterwards.

The Drop-Inn is a weekly educational lecture for Efling members and others who are interested. They are designed for those looking for a job and others who are available on Thursday mornings at 10am. Due to the current circumstances, the events will be online until the Efling office reopens.
