About the Efling Congress
The Efling Congress will be held on February 26–27, 2026, at Austurbæjarbíó, Snorrabraut.
The Efling Congress is a major event and a new development in the union’s work, intended to sharpen the voice of the membership and set the direction for the union’s policy on issues affecting working people.
At the congress, active members will work together on policy development through a structured program, group work, and the adoption of resolutions. Guest speakers, both domestic and international, will give presentations at the congress.
The Efling Delegate Council carries out preparatory work for the policy development of the Efling Congress, but the congress itself will have the final say on the adoption of resolutions.
The program runs on Thursday and Friday from morning to late afternoon, concluding with a gala dinner on Friday, February 27.
Program
A detailed program for the congress is being prepared and will be announced closer to the event.
Delegates
All active members (board members, members of the Delegate Council, and union representatives) automatically receive a seat at the congress upon confirmation. Once active members have confirmed their attendance, any remaining seats will be allocated by sector, and interested members will then have the opportunity to nominate themselves or another member to attend the congress.
Efling members who have received an invitation to the Efling Congress are asked to confirm their participation here.
Loss of wages for delegates
The employers of confirmed delegates will receive a letter from the union requesting permission for paid leave from work to attend the congress on both days, with reference to the relevant provisions of collective agreements where applicable.
Efling’s union representative training course will be cancelled in February, with the intention of encouraging employers to grant paid leave to union representatives, allowing them to use that leave to attend the congress instead of the training. In this way, all union representatives would be guaranteed at least one paid day of participation at the congress.
Union representatives on the public labour market are entitled under collective agreements to attend Efling events without loss of wages, and they may use that right to secure paid leave for both days.
Delegates who do not receive paid leave may instead request unpaid leave from their employer and have the resulting loss of wages reimbursed by Efling. Further instructions on the reimbursement process will be provided closer to the event.
