Union representatives and members from Efling from all professions came together at Reykjavík Airport between 5pm and 6pm to show solidarity with Ólöf Helga Adolfsdóttir, union representative at ramp services at Reykjavík Airport. Icelandair fired Ólöf Helg while she was guarding the interests of her coworkers in her job as union representative and security employee representative.
Union members were dressed in marked vests, raised a banner and handed out leaflets to flight passengers with information regarding what happened to Ólöf. Ólöf herself gave a speech and declarations of solidarity from other unions were read aloud.
During her address, Ólöf thanked the members of Efling for their great support and solidarity with her. She said that it was imperative that Icelandair be made to answer for their violations, which were violations against the rights of all union representatives. Ólöf said that she was still willing to come back to work if her dismissal were to be retracted.
Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, chairman of Efling, conducted the meeting and she criticized the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise (Samtök atvinnulífsins) harshly for their part in bringing about the firing of Ólöf.
The meeting went well and ended at about 6pm. Thereafter, the attendees held a meeting at Efling headquarters, where they concluded the meeting by enjoying refreshments together.
