Pink October – The importance of breast cancer screenings

In honor of Pink October, and the Pink Day on October 23, Efling Union encourages all women and non-binary people to go for cancer screenings. Did you know that women and non-binary people have the right to take time off work to go for cancer screenings?

Invitations for screenings for cervical and breast cancer are sent by letter and through the website Heilsuvera.is It now costs only 500 ISK to attend a screening, and it takes just about 10 minutes.

Efling Union covers up to 100% of the costs for cancer screenings related to cervical and breast cancer for union members. This applies to both first and follow-up screenings. You can read more about preventive grants available to Efling members HERE.

Breast screenings are conducted at the Breast Center of Landspítalinn at Eiríksgata 5 in Reykjavík. Women and non-binary people who receive an invitation can book an appointment by calling 543 9560 or by emailing brjostaskimun@landspitali.is. More information about screenings can be found HERE.

Cervical screenings are performed by midwives at all health care centers. Women who receive an invitation can book an appointment or attend open house sessions. Some health care centers have open house sessions between 15:00 and 17:00 every Thursday until November 21.
