The representatives of 35 restaurants have confirmed to Efling Union that they have withdrawn their companies from SVEIT, the association of companies in the catering market. More than half of all the restaurants that Efling contacted have responded to the union’s message and stated that they will respect the legitimate collective agreement between Efling and the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprises.
Efling sent a letter to the representatives of 108 restaurants last Tuesday, December 10, informing them that according to the union’s latest available information, they are members of SVEIT. The letter listed the actions that Efling intends to take against SVEIT and individual member companies, due to the illegal collective agreement between SVEIT and the pseudo-union at Virðing.
After receiving new information about SVEIT’s membership, Efling sent additional letters to 15 companies. A total of 123 companies have therefore received the letter in question from Efling. A follow-up letter has been sent to those companies that have not yet responded.
By midday today, December 13, Efling had received responses from over half of all the companies, a total of 74 restaurants. Of these, 35 companies reported that they had already withdrawn from SVEIT and would follow the legal collective agreement between Efling and the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprises. This is equivalent to 28 percent of all companies to which Efling has sent the letter.
In addition, 35 other companies have responded to Efling’s letter and stated that they will follow Efling’s collective agreement, although they are still members of SVEIT. In total, 57 percent of all companies have therefore informed Efling that they will respect the collective agreement between the company and SA.
Efling expresses its satisfaction with these responses from the companies and encourages those companies that have not yet responded to do so as soon as possible, in the same vein as those that have already responded.
