BHM and BSRB declare SVEIT member’s behavior disgraceful

BHM and BSRB have issued a joint statement in which they endorse the criticism of Efling Union, Efling-Iðja, and the Icelandic Federation of Labour, as well as other unions, regarding the pseudo-union “Virðing”.

In the statement, the BHM and BSRB criticize how SVEIT and Virðing have, with one stroke of the pen, negotiated away workers’ rights, with their own interests as a guide, through so-called collective bargaining between themselves.

“The membership fee in the pseudo-union is comparable to the membership fee in other unions. Nevertheless, its members do not seem to earn comparable rights in a health fund or the right to educational grants or other subsidies.

It is disgraceful that employers undermine the rights of employees in this way for self-interest,” the two unions said in a statement. The statement can be read here, on the BHM website, in its entirety in Icelandic.

If employees in the catering sector believe that they have been victimized by the fraud mill of Virðing and SVEIT, Efling strongly encourages them to contact us. This can be done on the reporting page which can be found here.
