Viðar Þorsteinsson, Efling’s Director of Education and Social Affairs, attended a meeting of the SUN cleaning group in Oslo, Norway, on December 12. The topic of the meeting was, among other things, a comparison of the terms and conditions and collective agreement provisions for cleaning workers in the general labor market.
Viðar presented the content of Efling’s current collective agreement with the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprises and discussed the framework for collective agreement negotiations for cleaning workers in Sweden and Norway. Trine Wiig, head of the cleaning department within the Norwegian association Norsk Arbeidsmandsforbund, reported on a European cooperation project between unions and employers in the sector.
In addition to Viðar and Trine, Ewa Edström, the national secretary of the cleaning sector within the Swedish trade union Fastighetsanställdas Förbund, and Anders Hellestveit, a representative of the civil service union Norsk Tjenestemannslag, attended the meeting.
The cleaning group is part of the activities of the Nordic trade union federation SUN, to which Efling was granted full membership earlier this year. The SUN board met in Reykjavík last October, as a news article on Efling’s website reported.
