The Icelandic Cabin Crew Association has sent a statement of support to Efling Union regarding Efling’s actions against the pseudo-union Virðing. The Icelandic Cabin Crew Association urges employees in the catering sector to stay away from Virðing “and not to participate in activities that aim solely to reduce benefits and undermine rights that have been won through decades of struggle,” the statement says.
The Icelandic Cabin Crew Association statement of support regarding actions against the “union” Virðing
The Icelandic Cabin Crew Association (FFÍ) declares its full support for the case of Efling Union, SGS, and Eining/Iðja regarding the association “Virðing” which has been established as a union without fulfilling the basic requirements that apply to such associations.
FFÍ supports Efling’s warning to employees in the catering sector to stay away from the association and not to participate in activities that aim only to reduce wages and undermine rights that have been won through decades of struggle. This is a regression of many decades in the rights of workers, especially low-wage workers.
The Icelandic Cabin Crew Association encourages unions and workers in Iceland to oppose this move with words and deeds. Let us protect what the labor movement has achieved through decades of struggle.
On behalf of the Board of the Icelandic Cabin Crew Association
Berglind Kristófersdóttir,
Chair of FFÍ
