One-fifth of restaurants sent letters by Efling have withdrawn from SVEIT

One-fifth of all companies sent letters by Efling Union due to the so-called collective agreement between SVEIT, the association of companies in the catering market, and the pseudo-union Virðingu have left SVEIT. Even higher numbers have stated that they will follow the collective agreement between Efling and the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise (SA).

Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir sent a letter to SVEIT member companies before noon yesterday, detailing the actions that Efling intends to take against SVEIT and individual member companies, due to the illegal collective agreement with Virðing. Dozens of companies have already responded.

Of the 108 companies that received the abovementioned letter, 22 have stated that they have left SVEIT or requested to leave. That is one-fifth of the companies to which Efling sent the letter. A total of 33 companies have stated that they will follow Efling’s collective agreement, or almost a third. The company has also received confirmation of the same from companies that did not receive the letter in question.

Efling will confirm receipt of all these messages.

“I am very pleased with the responses I have received from restaurant representatives. The vast majority have expressed their full willingness to follow legal collective agreements and respect the rights of their employees. It is also gratifying to see the companies withdraw from SVEIT, which represents a clear stance against the miserable deception that SVEIT has put on stage through the pseudo-union Virðing,” says Sólveig Anna.
