“Against War and Colonialism” – International Women’s Day, March 8

Efling Union, along with eleven other organizations, is organizing a women’s march and a rally for peace and equality on International Women’s Day, March 8. This year’s theme is “Against War and Colonialism.”

The event description states: “We cannot separate the fight for women’s rights from the struggle for peace, equality, and justice. We demand that all women enjoy freedom and human rights without discrimination. The fight for peace is a women’s struggle because men usually start wars but disproportionately affect women and children.”

Women and non-binary people are encouraged to gather at Arnarhóll at 1:00 PM and march together to Iðnó, where the rally will occur. The event will feature speeches and musical performances by a diverse group of women.

In Iceland, women’s organizations, trade unions, and peace and human rights groups have united for years in rallies on International Women’s Day to advocate for peace and equality.

The event is organized by:

  • The Iceland-Palestine Association
  • Stígamót
  • The Icelandic Human Rights Centre
