“Real wealth is created through our work – the work of the laboring class, who use their strength and intellect to uphold all the foundational systems of our society, whether in the private or public sectors. We bear the greatest responsibility in society, as we produce the value and generate the economic growth that benefits the entire community. At Efling, we clearly and loudly demand that this fact be recognized.”
So writes Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir to Efling’s members in her address as chairman in the newly published Efling Annual Report for 2024. The year 2024 was, in many ways, a highly successful one for the union, as detailed in the report. A historic collective agreement—the Stability and Welfare Agreement — was signed during the year.

However, Efling’s negotiating counterparts have unfortunately sought all possible ways to avoid fully honoring the agreed-upon pay raises. “We are the labor force of the capital area – our work creates value and drives economic growth. It is therefore intolerable to see both private and public employers breaking the agreements they signed with us,” Sólveig continues, emphasizing that Efling members will never back down in their rightful and fair struggle for improved wages and respect.
Efling’s financial result for 2024 was extremely positive, despite major reform projects and implementation processes undertaken during the year, which naturally involved significant costs. The final result showed a surplus of nearly ISK 1.3 billion. More details about the union’s financial performance can be found in the introduction by Executive Director Perla Ösp Ásgeirsdóttir, as well as in the financial statements.
The annual report provides a comprehensive overview of the union’s operations, including the work of the various departments within the Efling office and the union’s social activities. It also contains analyses of the development of Efling’s membership base since the turn of the century, statistical information about the union’s services, and coverage of wage negotiations and labor issues.
