Food and Culture in Iðnó – A feast not to be missed

Delicacies. On Sunday, 29 September 2024, the event Food and Culture was held at Efling’s community centre in Guðrúnartún. Participants from fourteen countries took part, and around two hundred guests visited the centre that day to taste the food.

The air will be fragrant, mouths watering, and hearts full of sunshine when the festival Food and Culture takes place at Iðnó on Sunday, 21 September. At the festival, Efling members will have the chance to taste delicious dishes from around the world, prepared and served by fellow members.

Food and Culture is now being held for the third consecutive year, following its instant success with Efling members when it was first organised in 2023. Demand far exceeded capacity in both its first year and again last year. The event has now been moved from Efling’s Community Center to Iðnó, which can accommodate more guests.

At Food and Culture, Efling members have the opportunity to treat fellow members to dishes from their countries of origin. Efling reimburses the cost of ingredients and provides all tableware, as well as drinks. In both previous years, dishes from 13 different countries were on offer. As Efling members come from 144 countries in total, visitors to this year’s festival can truly look forward to a feast.

Celebrating culture

This year, the festival will be expanded even further, with the addition of cultural acts. Members are therefore encouraged to sign up for dance, music, magic, or any other entertaining performance they may have up their sleeve.

Members who wish to take part, whether by serving delicious food or taking the stage with an act or performance, are asked to register by 12:00 noon on Monday, 15 September. The registration form and further details can be found below.

Efling members are encouraged to keep Sunday, 21 September, free. Doors at Iðnó open at 14:00. Admission is free for members, and the food is offered at no cost.

Please note: The registration form for festival guests will open at the beginning of September.
