The board of the Efling trade union stands firmly alongside its Greenlandic comrades during the turbulent times that now prevail. Yesterday, the board adopted a resolution sending messages of solidarity and struggle to its comrades in Sulinermik Inuussutissarsiuteqartut Kattuffiat (SIK), the national confederation of Greenlandic trade unions.
In the resolution, the board of Efling states that the future of Greenland must be decided by the people of Greenland themselves, and by no one else. “We will face this threat together with you, and we will do what we always do: Stand together and never give up.
The resolution has been sent to our comrades in SIK and can be read in full below.
Dear Greenlandic comrades in SIK!
We live in dangerous and unpredictable times. Right now, few know this better than Greenlanders.
The USA and President Donald Trump are threatening an American invasion of Greenlandic territory.
We do not know the consequences of such an action.
It could lead not only to a loss of national sovereignty, but also to worsening conditions for Greenlandic workers.
An entry of American companies could lead to weaker protection for workers, which is a break with the strong trade union traditions we share in Nordic cooperation.
We will face this threat together with you, and we will do what we always do: Stand together and never give up.
Greenland’s future must above all else be decided by the people of Greenland. Not by the USA, and not by NATO.
The board of Efling Union stands shoulder to shoulder with you in this very difficult situation, and you can count on our full support.
For a free Greenland with strong rights for workers!
