In Iceland, there are 16 public holidays, which are divided into public holidays and major public holidays.
Major public holidays

- Good Friday (major public holiday) 2025: April 18
- Easter day 2025: April 20
- Whit Sunday 2025: June 8
- Independence Day (June 17)
- Christmas Eve, from 12 noon (December 24)
- Christmas Day (December 25)
- New Year’s Day, from 12 noon (December 31)
All overtime work on major public holidays is compensated at an hourly rate equal to 1.375% of the monthly salary for daytime work. Different rules may apply to shift workers.
