Efling – union has received many declarations of support from unions around the world and evidently the hotel-maid strike on International Women’s Day has attracted a lot of attention.To take one example, Hotell- och restaurangfacket, HRF in Sweden, salutes their “brave sisters and brothers in Iceland” and send their best wishes to all those involved in the strike.United Here, a union of hotel-workers in North-America also sent a message, letting us know that they stand with us on this International Women’s Day in the struggle for justice and respect for the work of low-wage earning women around the world.The Swiss union, International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers’ Associations – IUF sent a message of support to hotel-maids and they stand with us in the struggle for improved living-standards and a more just society.“It’s very important for us to feel the support of our comrades abroad and that gives us strength,” says Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, president of Efling. “We meet the day with excitement and anticipation and send our thanks for all the good messages of support that we have received.”
