A lecture by Þórður Snær Júlíusson, editor of Kjarninn, When the government picks winners, will be the focus of the Efling council delegate meeting held tonight. The lecture starts at 19.30 and will be streamed live on Efling facebook. We are in a crisis with great consequences. Public institutions have been activated to react and provide assistance. That assistance has largely gone in two directions: On the one hand, to companies in tourism and, on the other, to better-off households which didn’t need assistance. Groups most affected have been left behind. In his lecture, Þórður Snær Júlíusson will review the scene and explain how public assistance ended up like this. Answers will be sought to the following questions: Why did the Icelandic authorities choose this path? What could the consequences be? What other roads could have been taken? Is it too late to change course?
