The application deadline for studying in the Social Assistance Portal (Félagsliðagátt) ends next Monday, August 12. Efling members who intend to enroll in the program this winter are encouraged to apply before that time.
The Social Assistance Portal is intended for care workers, for example in nursing homes, in senior homes, or home care. The program aims to increase knowledge, skills, and professional skills.
The Social Assistance Portal is for those who have reached the age of 22 and have at least three years of experience in care work. Students must also have completed 190 hours of work-related courses, for example the Vocational Courses I and II for care workers. It is worth pointing out to those who have not completed 190 hours of work-related courses, that the aforementioned courses will be held this winter and will be better presented here soon. High school credits are also assessed if courses are the same or comparable to those taught in the Social Assistance Portal.
The course takes place at Mímir, Höfðbakki 9, and the teaching period begins on September 5 and lasts until June 10 next year. Students complete 4 semesters out of 6 at Mímir, but to graduate, students must complete the last two semesters in high school. The course is in Icelandic. More information about the program can be found here.
Efling’s vocational funds pay the tuition in full for those members who work for public sector employers. Applications are accepted through Mímir website and Mímir staff answer questions about the application process: https://www.mimir.is/is/nam/namsbrautir/felagslidagatt
