The new school of Efling has been given a name

Efling has founded a new school for its members. There was a contest among the members to find a name for the school and the union received no fewer than 135 suggestions. The winning suggestion came from Dovile Paulauskaite and the school will be named Vitinn – school of Efling. Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, chairman of Efling handed the prize of 50.000 kronas to Dovile a few days ago at Efling headquarters at Guðrúnartún 1.The selection committee comprised Efling chairman Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, Fríða Rós Valdimarsdóttir, Team leader of education and training at Efling and the advertising agency Kontór.The selection committee said in its statement: “The lighthouse (vitinn) symbolizes stability during a time of rough waters, it lights the way forward and illuminates the darkness. The name also refers to wisdom (vit) which is acquired with the aid of more education.”The current educational format of the union is to be thus reconfigured and a new study course. The aim is to render the education of members more modern, and to make it more diverse, focused and interesting than it currently is.The founding of the school provides a sort of umbrella over the current course selection of Efling, that is education for union representatives, the Drop-Inn educational morning, activity courses, retirement courses and other courses. Also, a so-called general study course will be available where members of Efling are given the support and the tools to make a difference, take part in the struggle of the working class and participate in society in general. The school begins in the autumn.
