In the next DropINN on May 6 at 10am there will be a discussion about the change in combination of the labour market along with a large increase in immigrants in Iceland, but the number of immigrants has increased six fold at the last 20 years. In addition to examining developments, various useful concepts will be discussed; globalization, migration, multiculturalism and integration. Various dark aspects of the rapidly growing tourism industry that the trade union movement has fought against will be discussed.Finally, the employment rate of immigrants in Iceland will be discussed, but it has generally been very high and much higher than in neigh boring countries as well as among native Icelanders, at over 40% unemployment as it is now. Guðrún Margrét Guðmundsdóttir, an expert at ASÍ, will review these issues.
