Employees of Grund nursing homes meet with the Minister of Health

This morning, Wednesday, November 8, Sólveig Anna Jónsdóttir, chairman of Efling together with representatives of the staff of Grund nursing homes in Hveragerði, had a meeting with Willum Þór Þórssyn, Minister of Health.

Sólveig Anna, together with Áslaug Einarsdóttir, Hildur Ýr Tryggvadóttir, Erla Pálmadóttir and Angelia Róbertsdóttir talked to Willum Þór about the effect of the dismissal of the board of Grund nursing homes on the staff in Hveragerði. They reported that there was enormous dissatisfaction in Hveragerði with the collective dismissal. There was also discussion about the dissatisfaction of residents in Ás nursing home due to the unjustified decision of the board of the Grund nursing homes.

The demand of Efling and Efling’s members is that the dismissal be withdrawn. It has the consequences that close to 30 Efling members, some with more than 30 years of work experience, have lost their jobs. The outsourcing of the jobs means that their jobs end up in the hands of private cleaning companies that offer employees worse conditions and poorer rights.

Efling and the staff of the Gund nursing homes in Hveragerði thank the Minister of Health for a good meeting. The union hopes that he will use his influence to have the dismissal withdrawn.
