Efling union kicks off the new year with a whole range of exciting events and courses for union members. The courses are available to members free of charge. The union makes an effort to offer them in Icelandic, English and Polish.
The subjects of the courses range from general educational for members to more specific courses intended to increase the skills of members in certain professions or situations. Please note that some professional courses can provide members with a salary increase in their sector.
The first event of the year is Efling’s Membership meeting, which will be held on January 9. The event will simultaneously be a meeting of the delegate council. We will go, i.a. over the work of the delegate council, there will be a presentation of Efling’s activities and the Icelandic labour movement, in addition, there will be a presentation of actions regarding a fake union in the restaurant sector, See more HERE. In January and February, Efling will offer excellent courses that all Efling members should familiarize themselves with; rights and obligations in the labor market, courses in the basics of the trade union struggle and the tax system in Iceland.
In the coming weeks, more specialized courses are also scheduled, such as Care Workers – Vocational Course I and Care Workers – Vocational Course II for Efling members who work in health services. The courses are intended for those who help, care for or care for the sick, disabled and elderly in private homes or institutions. Also those who help clients with shopping, cleaning and personal care. Those professional courses are a prelude to further studies in the Social Bridge Program. There will also be professional courses for preschool employees: Preschool employees – Vocational course I and Preschool employees – Vocational course II. Emphasis will be placed on both learning things that strengthen personal and general skills, e.g. self-strengthening and communication, learning techniques and such factors as development and development of preschool children, art work with children, preschool curriculum, multicultural preschool and more. These vocational courses are a prerequisite to studies in the preschool assistant bridge program and start in May and June.
In February, a course on the basics of labor organizing will be offered for active members who are interested in the trade union struggle. In March, retirement seminars will be held for members who are thinking about retirement. Efling will also launch a new course for expectant parents at the end of March, where various issues will be covered to prepare new parents for that big event in their lives. The union representative courses will also be in place. Union representatives play a very important role in Efling’s work and the union places great emphasis on increasing their number, as well as providing them with intensive education, training and support.
